However, after watching The Departed, | knew that Wahlberg had it in him. After viewing his recent film Shooter, | have gained a new respect for Mark Wahlberg as an actor. He puts a lot of effort into his performance as Bob Lee Swagger, and it makes Shooter a can't-miss film in the box Office. Wahlberg plays a marksman by the name of Bob Lee Swagger whga.is living in exile after his partner is mistakenly killed:in an earlier mission. Swagger is talked bac ion after eal assassination Swagger goes killer is and is on the path to figure out who set him up. While the majority of the film really entertained me, | felt as though that the ending was a little too over the top. Like all action flicks, though, you have to throw away your sense of reality for at least for the entire two hours or more. The ending was a little too anticlimactic and formulaic. Except for some cheesy dialogue, such as an unnecessary Anna Nicole Smith comment and a reference towards the current president, Shooter was an enjoyable film. Joining Wahlberg in the cast was Michael Pena of World Trade. Center and Crash. Pena played the role of Nick Memphis, an FBI agent who quickly team swagger to help prove very vital towards throughout the film, and | found myself hating his performance just because | could not understand a single word he was saying. Of course, like all action flicks, there was a girl who befriended Swagger. Actress Kate Mara of Brokeback Mountain and We Are Marshall played the role of Sarah Fenn. This is where my only true complaint of the film comes in. Kate Maras character, the widowed wife of Swaggers best friend, seems to only play two emotionsdistressed or hystericaland it does get annoying. Although she does play the part well, | would have liked to see her character develop a little bit more. Modest Mouse, We Were Dead Before the ns Soe Even Sank By Katie Rath * WCnewsmagazine (4 out of 5 stars) After a two-year absence, Modest Mouse is back on the scene with an album devoted to leaving their legacy. The great thing about this album is that its what you would expect from MM. No matter how long youve been a fan, the band from Washington delivers a stellar performance once again. But do not assume this album will bore. MM surprises the masses with new guitarist Johnny Marr from the Smiths. This novel talent adds just enough spice to tease your senses as you indulge in a musical feast. Consider this album a buffet of tunes. The combination of shouting and singing gels appropriately with the intense-then-demure melodies for which MM is popular. Flavored with mounting and dying rhythms, the songs reflect the maritime flow of the album title. As for the lyrics, they themselves smirk wryly at lifes ironic situations, another familiar characteristic of the band. Already #1 on more than one Billboard chart, this album is proving unsinkable in the Play for Peace Stirs the Community By Katie Rath * WCnewsmagazine Lastissue, our focus was on what defines us as a generation. Moon was dropped shortly after a re-release of Good News for People who Love Bad News, which held arguably Modest Mouses most popular tune, Float On.
