  • WESTERN CAROLINIAN NEWS April 18,2001 April 11 April 10 At 6:10 a.m., Physical Plant employees reported a car parked at the UC loading dock blocking trash removal. Officers contacted the owner and had the car moved. At 8:06 a.m., a student in Helder reported that an intoxicated male was in her room. Officers removed the male student. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. At 9:15 a.m., officers investigated a traffic accident in the Coulter lot. At 11:53 a.m., officers investigated a traffic accident in the Reid lot. At 12:35 p.m., officers were called to Helder to an argument between a student and her ex-boyfriend. Officers escorted the male student out of the building and to the Counseling Center. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. At 3:00 p.m., Bookstore employees reported an attempted credit card fraud where an order was placed over the phone by a person who was not authorized to use a credit card. At 4:30 p.m., a trooper from the N. C. Highway Patrol reported inappropriate behavior by two male students involving a school bus on NC 281. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. At 4:41 p.m., officers responded to a fire alarm at Ramsey caused by paint fumes in an air handler. At 6:30 p.m., students reported an explosion inside a vehicle in front of Scott. Officers found that a spare tire had exploded in the back of a Jeep Cherokee sending portions of the tire and glass from the vehicle across the parking lot damaging two other vehicles. At 11:59 p.m., officers assisted WestCare EMS with a call on the sixth floor of Scott where a female student had been burned by boiling water. At approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to Harrill where a male student had become angry after a fight and kicked out glass in the front lobby. Officers arrested the subject for damage to real property, intoxicated and disruptive, and resisting arrest. Warrants were also drawn on another male for assault in connection with the figfcl. t At noon on 4/9, officers referred a male student to Judicial Affairs for profanity and abusive language toward a staff member in the Traffic Office. At 8:30 a.m., officers served a civil summons to a male andfemale student in connection with a civil litigation off campus. At 2:46 p.m., a student and Housing staff member reported receiving threats from a female student. This appears to be part of an on-going conflict between the suspect and several other students. At 1:30 a.m., officers cited a female student for running a stop light and warned her about speeding. At 5:35 p.m. on 4/11, officers assisted students who were stuck in an elevator in Scott. April 12 At 3:35 p.m. on 4/12, officers reported that someone had spray painted graffiti on the east wall of Dodson Cafeteria facing Forest Hills Road. April 13 At 12:25 p.m. on 4/13, officers responded to a fire alarm at the Administration Building caused by burnt toast on the first floor. At 3:58 p.m. on 4/13, officers responded to a fire alarm at the Old Student Union caused by steam in a mechanical room. At 10:16 p.m. on 4/13, a student in Buchanan reported a fraud which occurred when a male had promised to pay her $ 1.00 for each credit card application she secured from other people. The male had written her a bad check for her work. The suspect is identified as "Rob Singpiel" of Bloomington, Indiana. University Police are seeking additional information on the suspect. At 11:55 p.m. on 4/13, officers assisted the N. C. State Highway Patrol at a traffic accident on NC 102. April 14 At 1:16 a.m. on 4/14, officers assisted Jackson County deputies by responding to a loud party at Valhalla Apartments and standing by until deputies arrived. At 11:31 p.m. on 4/14, officers arrested a male student for driving left of center and a provisional licensee violation. April 15 At 6:30 p.m. on 4/15, a student reported that someone had stolen her vehicle which had been parked in the Walker R lot. Officers found the vehicle later parked behind Scott. At 10:25 p.m. on 4/15, officers assisted Jackson County deputies at a fight on Lyle Wilson Road. April 16 At 10:20 a.m., officers investigated a hit & run accident in the lower UC lot. At 11:30 a.m., officers served two magistrate summons on a female student in connection with an off-campus civil matter. At 4:40 p.m., a student in Walker reported that her room had been vandalized while she was gone for Easter break. At 12:08 a.m., officers responded to a fire alarm in Scott caused by cigarette smoke on the fourth floor. At 12:09 a.m., a student complained about receiving harassing phone messages in Albright. At 1:05 a.m., officers responded to a call from Housing staff in Reynolds reporting the odor of marijuana. Officers could not detect the source of the odor. RADUATING? WIN A FORD FOCUS!
