  • 14 WESTERN CAROLINIAN GET A LIFE November 1,2000 Asheville's Diana Wortham Theatre Presents The Will Rogers Follies By Melissa Dills Staff Writer For those students who are in search of something to do or see, the hit Broadway musical, The Will Rogers Follies- A Life in Revue, will be performed courtesy of a national touring company at Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place in Asheville. Showtimes are at 4:00 and 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 4. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and students, and $10 for children 12 and under. The Will Rogers Follies- A Life in Revue is a musical biography of one of America's most beloved citizens, an Oklahoma man named Will Rogers. In 1991, the show received 11 Tony Award nominations and was awarded six Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score. In 1992, it won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. The show was also voted Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics and Drama Desk. Will Rogers was a vaudeville performer, radio commentator, newspaper columnist, humorist, and a movie star before his untimely death in an airplane crash in 1935. In the show, Rogers narrates his life story through a series of Zeigfeld Follies production numbers that include several of his most famous and amusing monologues. Other highlights from the production include the musical numbers, phosphorescent rope tricks, a dog song, and the humor and philosophy of the cowboy from Oklahoma. John Ellis, Managing Director of the Diana Wortham Theatre, said, "The Will Rogers Follies stop in Asheville is a real treat for local musical- lovers. ..
