Pasley News Editor Tuesday's SGA Senate election was full of close races, and after two weeks of frenzied campaigning, a new crop of senators was voted into office. The polls were open from 9 am to 5 pm for students to vote for their representation in the student senate. Students voted according to their residence. Upper campus includes Harrill, Albright-Benton, Reynolds, Madison, Buchanan, and Robertson, while lower campus includes Scott, Walker, Helder, and Leatherwood, and commuter students. The race for resident student representation was very competitive this year, according to SGA President Jonathan Rowe. Eighteen upper campus students were running for six seats, and 19 lower campus students were running for eight seats. Last year, there were fewer students running for Senate, and most of the candidates got their positions by default because there were not enough students running for the election to be competitive. As was the case last year, the race was not close for commuter representatives. Only nine students ran for 14 available senator positions, and some of the vacant commuter Senate spots were given to resident students in order to have a full Senate. Four more students were added to the upper cakley: Christopher Lee Hall, Caroline Taylor.'Bradley Lovin, Tripp Spangler, Carrie M. Fouchia, Heidi Randall, Jennifer Bishop, Jason Brown, and Shanelle Joyner. The senators for lower campus are Kelli Dilworth, Jenni Giles, Lex Davis, Eugene Feldman, Melissa Ishage', Bryan Eric Wright, Brittany Harrison, Jeffrey Paulson, and Jermaine Perry. Commuter senators are Jesse S. Lyons, Brian ^__ Alexander King, Mike Murray, Kaila Robbs, Ryan Story, Ryan Magee, James Twitchell, Ryan R. Butler, and Mark Mann. The SGA Senate has many responsibilities at WCU. Last year the SGA put on leadership workshops for high school student government members and assisted with the Association of Student ^^^^__^^_-—1 Government retreat when it was held at WCU. "I think that we'll do a good job because so many people are interested and motivated," said Cowan. Dodson Renovations Finally Near Completion: After $200,000 for Gazebo and Walkway by Austin A. "Dodson has just sat there," said Andy Comrie, director of WCU's Physical Plant, "Undoubtedly it was time for a change." The work in and around Dodson Cafeteria began this summer with the replacement of all of the lights, the glass, and the doors, as well as the installation of new carpeting. Since the beginning of fall semester, students have been barricaded out of the front entrance of Dodson because of the construction crews excavation of a large hole. The university has decided to build a gazebo connected to a covered walkway that leads us to the entrance of Dodson Cafeteria. How much is all of this work costing WCU? The renovations should be com plete in another two to three weeks, according to Kevin Dillard of E & J Masonry, the company brought in to pour the footings for the gazebo and the walkway.
