Dechion waken mho (omm<in(l\ thmomUckttmfift, Mb (It S¥WW.MARItJKOPMCl R.COM HeCJi by Ryan Hipps Staff Writer In a game that resembled most of the year for the Lady Catamounts, the WCU 70 Georgia Southern GSU 79 Lady Eagles narrowly defeated the Lady Cats Saturday night, 79-70 in Statesboro. Western Carolina fell to 10-15 overall, 5-11 in the Southern Conference with the loss. Seniors Tondra Warren and Nikita Whately lead the Lady Eagles assault against the Lady Cats in their final home game at Hanner Fieldhouse. Warren recorded her fourth double- double of the year as she scored 14 points and pulled down a career high 15 rebounds while Whatley finished just one point shy of her career high 15 points. At the 9:00 minute mark the Lady Cats found themselves down by 11, but mounted a defensive comeback forcing GSU into 32 turnovers. The Lady Cats then went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes. Georgia Southern then regained their offensive composure as the Lady Cats found themselves down by a deuce at half-time. Another Lady Cat to reach double- figures was senior forward Willow Russell. She finished with 10 points and seven boards in 36 minutes of play. The Lady Cats struggled from the three-point line shooting a dismal 2-10. Western Carolina returns home for their regular-season finale as the College of Charleston Cougars come to Cullowhee. The game marks the final home appearance of senior Willow Russell. The Doraville, Ga., native, who surpassed the 1,000 point mark for her career this season, will be honored for her career as a Lady Cat.
