  • 8 Thursday, February 131997 Sports QJlje Western Carolinian WCU Rugby Team to Host First Annual High Mountain Rugby Classic MICHAEL PEOPLES CONTRIBUTING WRITER The Western rugby team is hosting a fouT-team tournament titled High Mountain Rugby Classic on Saturday, February 22. The Classic will begin ft 1:00 p.m. at the Rubber Track, but will move to the intramural field behind Camp Lab if the weather does not cooperate. The new tournament will feature Western Carolina, Davidson, Appalachian State, and the Asheville Men's Club. The WCU rugby team would also like to welcome all of our spectators to participate in post-game festivities. The WCU rugby team is also sponsoring a raffle starting this week in preparation foi the Classic. Rugby players will be selling tickets at Dodson Cafeteria, Wal-Mart, around the dorms, and throughout campus. Tickets will cost $1 and proceeds will go towards supplying the WCU rugby team with much-needed equipment and travel expenses. The team does not receive any university funds, so your support would be greatly appreciated. Raffle prizes include rafting trips for five on the Nantahala River, horseback rides at local stables, and gift certificates for local restaurants and retail outlets, video stores, Quin Theaters, and t-shirt shops. The WCU Rugby Team would like to thank the sponsors that support them. These sponsors are Bailey's Bar and Grill, Motion Makers, Bob's Package Store, and Simply T's. The Western ruggers would also like to thank everyone for purchasing these raffle tickets. The raffle will be held Saturday at the High Mountain Rugby Classic. No Name Intramural Champions and Events 1. INTRAMURAL CO-ED INNER TUBE WATER POLO SIGN-UPS begin Monday, February 17th through Monday, February 24th at 3:00pm in Office #130- D of Reid Gym. The Co-ed Inner Tube Water Polo Rules Clinic will take place Monday, February 24th and Tuesday, February 25th from 8:00-9:00pm. All team captains should attend one of these clinics and come prepared'to participate. A team consists of five members: two women and three men (with a man at the goalkeeper's position). 2. INTRAMURAL TRAP SHOOTING SIGN-UPS (men and women) will begin Tuesday, February 18th and end on Thursday, February 27th at 3:00pm in Office #130-D of Reid Gym. A $2.00 fee is required at registration. Twelve gauge shotguns, clay pigeons and ammunition are furnished. Maximum of 50 participants. The Intramural Trap Shooting Range is located north of the WCU track. Pick up a rule sheet in the Intramural Office, located in Reid Gym. 3. MEN'S INTRAMURAL WRESTLING SIGN-UPS will be from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on February 18th-20th in Reid Gym's back equipment cage. Wrestling tournament will occur February 26th at 8:00pm on Breese Main Floor. - The following weight classes will apply: 1. 98.0 lbs. & under 7. 154.0 lbs. & under 2.105.5 lbs. & under 8. 165.01bs. &under 3.114.5 lbs & under 9. 178.0 lbs. & under 4.123.0 lbs. & under 10. 191.5 lbs. & under 5.132.0 lbs. & under 11. 220.0 lbs. & under 6.143.0 lbs & under 12. 220.0-275.0 lbs. & under The first round of matches will occur February 24th at 8:00pm on Reid Main Floor.
