TEENAGE AMERIKA Phase 1: Deep Shit After the end, what next ? A new beginning ? The Editor has asked me To write something really poetic and controversial For yer nifty underground alternative publication. I can't figure out why anyone Would take time out of their busy schedules To read a bunch of mind farts By a gaggle of Pseudo-intellectuals (or, at best, a swarm of angry guys who can't get laid). Jesus, people ! Do Calculus ! Jog ! Play Tennis ! Anything but encourage these people To go out of their way and create something Especially if it's thought-provoking or original. You're being duped - victims of a cruel con By myself and any other schmuck With access to a pen, some paper, word processor, or typewriter. Words by themselves aren't dangerous Only when they're connected to unwanted themes, concepts, or ideas. Society is being taught how not to communicate with each other Only to obey a series of commands Which are given to us in the form of icons And singing dancing subversive images. Obey the musical lifestyles crawling out of your electronic boxes Tune in tn fV.Q T.r^-j- ~.f i.u- t-*aryA-U*nmr fnnls that nose as artists v me musical lifestyles crawling out ui yuui c-__i._.*n_ ~~— i in to the words of the trend-happy fools that pose as artists Who nui^u,, --. u :„«.~ u^uuu-.-- -w-Oif^ians and relieious fanat *une in to the words of the trend-happy roois mat pus- a» «.«*« Who quickly morph into babbling politicians and religious fanatics. There's no distinctions between rock concerts, political conventions, and church services Because it's all Persuasion-as-Entertainment tools. What is Reality ? Reality is something which exists for you and only you ~-that is, until you start interacting with others. Reality is shaped by and for different individuals h different cities, towns, streets, houses, and rooms. Reality can be a channel constantly changing. Reality is a grim sociological forecast Which will trickle down to YOU sooner or later Unhl then, hey, kick back and enjoy the party. nd don't worry folks: some enterprising soul "1 capture it as art and make a profit. bet You can't wait. Phase Two: The Beauty of Forgetting ^e'lo, Teenage Amerika... y°U re dyin-g too soon under clouds of corporate senility. It^h mlnd is not your own' Th °eing summoned by the giant TV. Exn SUpplies eVerY want' need' and desire """ p_Penence it now...forget it later. n can be an easy reminder. Dave Williams: A Poem Hello, Teenage Amerika... Mom and Dad are lovable ancient artifacts That only get attended to on Holidays. See any resemblance to your future selves ? Time is running out for Teenage Amerika. You must organize now Or risk becoming a caricature of your parental units. You must change things NOW Or be prepared for them to remain the same. I get so tired of seeing you unhappy And unable to get your shit together — But I'm just like you, Having a hard time on the lonely climb, Because the powers that be don't give a damn about me. Goodbye, Teenage Amerika I'm a middle-aged man who no longer cares About your wants and needs Or the plight of your groovy selves. I listen to my old records, laugh, and call you "Kids" Because you're improvising, making it up And in the end, if you're lucky, you might be remembered. I hope that you finally decide to get your hands dirty To live, experience, fuck-up, succeed, Rather than to retreat to the comfort of your cocoons. I hope that you have some serious questions And I hope that you get some serious answers...seriously. Goodbye, Teenage Amerika There is no video supplement for this. You must use the material that you have at your disposal. Good Luck.
