Sports March 29, 1994 Sports Shorts • Intramural fishing derby began March 28, at 8am will and end on April 25, at 3pm. All fish are measured at the Reid Gym front equipment cage by a faculty member or cage attendant Longest fish will be posted on the men's intramural bulletin board in Reid Gym. Intramural T-shirts will be awarded for the five following classes: 1-Brown Trout, 2- Rainbow Trout, 3-Bass (Small Mouth and Large Mouth), 4-Crappie, 5-Bream. • Men's horseshoes "singles" ar/H "doubles" will occur behind Reid < at the WCU Horseshoe Pits on: - March 29 at 4pm for Fraternity and International Leagues. - March 30 at 4pm for All-Campufe Playoffs. The field events will begin at 2:45pm and the running events will begin at 4pm. • The Western Carolina University Hor ors Program in conjunction with the Western Carolina University Honors Council 11 once again host the 3rd Bi-Annual Cumnwhee Road Race. The ract/will be held onAVril 9 at 9:00 am ancLwill be run on River Road. There willbethree different races includihv a 5k road race, 10K road race and aJptiCrun. The Cats (25-6) have won 25 of their last 28 games and have played four games against nationally ranked teams. Clemson, who beat the Cats in three straight earliei this season, is ranked 14th. South Carolina, a 9-2 victim of the Cats, is number 19. According to Sports Information Director Steve White, this marks the earliest point at which the Cats have been ranked in their history. Western'shighestrankingeverwas 17th in the final poll of the 1992 season. In last week's poll the Cats garnered enough votes to be number 31 in the nation and went4-l thispastweektogetthehigher ranking. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
