The Cats'No. 1 doubles team of Terry Coles and Neocleous Neoclis, the only upperclassmen on the tennis squad, came the closest to victory with an 8-4 loss. Despite the loss to Clemson, second year Head Coach Fred Weinman expects to be competitive in Southern Conference action. "There are several teams we clearly expect to beat," Weinman said of the league competition. "I think we have the potential to upset a couple of teams that we haven't beaten in the recent past." Neocleous, a junior from Limassol, Cyprus, moves up two notches to the No. 1 singles position for the Catamounts this season. As a sophomore in 1993, Neocleous posted a 7-7 record playing No. 3 singles. "Neoclis' international experience he has gained while playing Davis Cup for Cyprus and other international events has given him the edge he needs to step up into our flight one position," says Weinmann. Adam Flader will anchor the No. 2 singles spot for the Catamounts. Flader, a sophomore from Bonita Springs, Fla. posted the best record of the team for the Cats last season playing No. 4 singles. "We expect him to return to the dominant form that led him to 14 straight wins last year," said Weinman. Terry Coles will work the flight three singles spot for Western. Coles, a junioi from London, England, played the No. 5 spot last season and posted a 5-9 record. "His strong fall season showed how much he work he put in on the court over the summer. Terry wasn't satisfied with his numbers last year and has proved to be our most improved player," said Weinmann of Coles. The Cats will take two weeks off before traveling to Columbia, SC, to take on South Carolina and James Madison or February 19. Western falls to ASU, 83-59 Stephanie Jones <orler win over WCU.
