He writes in a conversational style and with wit, compassion, and always with intelligence." Brendan Galvin is the author of eleven books of poems including Great Blue: New and Selected Poems, Seals in the Inner Harbor, Winter Oysters^ which was shortlisted for a Pulitzer Prize; Atlantic Flyway, a Pulitzer Prize nominee; The Minutes No on Ownsi and No time for Good Reasons. Oakes Staff Writer On Thursday, March 22nd, Steve Jones, a candidate for the office of SGA vice president, met with the SGA elections committee to ask that the election be postponed for two weeks. Jones asked for this extension on the grounds that he was being singled out for harassment and discrimination by Bob Hamer, the current SGA vice president. Jones brought 14 charges of misconduct against Hamer, including distributing false information and, therefore, indirectly supporting candidate Chris Kallao, who is Hamer's fraternity brother. Hamer did admit to giving Jones false information about election regulations but denied that it had been done intentionally or maliciously. Jones asked that the election be extended for two weeks to give him ample opportunity to recover from the damage allegedly done to his campaign by Hamer. Jones noted that the elections committee was comprised of only five members rather than the six prescribed by the SGA by-laws. He claimed that Hamer's actions had prevented him from actively campaigning or acquiring and distributing posters as the other candidates have already done. He said the two week delay was necessary to ensure a fair election. Hamer, who is also chairman of the elections committee, responded by saying that his actions toward Jones were not politically motivated, and that he had treated Jones exactly the same as he had every other candidate. He also stated, and Jones agreed, that he had told Jones several times that he was clear to begin campaigning, but that Jones had taken no action. The elections committee unanimously rejected Jones' request for an extension. According to Jones, he was not surprised at the outcome because Hamer, the subject of the accusations, presided over the elections committee meeting. Jones also noted that the committee was comprised primarily of people involved with Hamer's fraternity and sister sorority. The committee decided not to take any action against Hamer on the grounds that Jones had failed to adequately support his charges. The election date remains unchanged.
