Art Dept. to Open Asheville Gallery WCU's Department of Art has announced plans to open a new art gallery in Asheville to showcase work by students at colleges throughout North Carolina. The intent of the program is to expose WNC residents to "alternative" art. The World Art Gallery, as it is named, is in the heart of downtown Asheville's cultural center on Biltmore Avenue. It will be overseen by WCU's Art Department. The gallery is scheduled to open November 3 with a display of figurative art from artists in Asheville and Atlanta, called "The Figure When It's Speaking." Robert Godfrey, head of WCU's Art Department, says he's "been kicking around the idea of a non-profit, professionally-run gallery for years." Godfrey's dream finally became a reality when a WCU graduate student in the Art Department donated the use of the building, which she owns. Godfrey says, "we've been wanting to make our department more visible within the region and at the same time pull in art from the larger community . . . now that we have this donated space, we can do it." The World Gallery will showcase works not only by WCU students, but works of other university and college art departments. Godfrey says, "It is important that we not only reflect what is going on in the region, but that we also bring to the region examples of what is going on elsewhere." whopper; large fries, REGULAR SOFT DRINK WHOPPER COMBO LG.
