It is open to all faculty ana staff. "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" will be shown at the Jackson County Library at 3.30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. This 1940 film is the story of the life of Abraham Lincoln from his early years until his run for the national office. The film stars Raymond Massey, Ruth Gordon, Gene Lockhart, and Dorothy Treet Running time for the movie is 110 min., and admission is free. The women's basketball team will play UNC-Asheville in the Ramsey Center at 7:00 p.m. Ad mission is $1. The Western Carolina University's Symphony Band will hold a concert in the the Recital Hall of the Music-English Building. The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m Admission is free. Part five of ABC's controversial mini- series "Amerika" will be shown tonight. On tonight's episode Devin is forced to make a pro- Soviet public appearance, that eventually is transformed into an American rally. Sam Neil, Kris Kristofferson, Robert Urich, and Wendy Hughes star. Amerika" can be seen on WLOS 13. "Ceramic Wallpieces" an exhibition of works by Kathy Triplett will be on display until March 6. Triplett has exhibited her work on the East Coast as well as the Ashevilie Art Museum, and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston- Salem. The exhibition is being held in the Chelsea Gallery of the U.C. from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to midnight Friday, and noon until 11:00 p.m. on Sunday Admission is free. Friday Feb. 20 Last Minute Productions will be showing "Ferris Bueller's Day Oft." The film stars Matthew Broderick. The film will be shown in the Cherokee Room at the U.C Admission is $1 for students, $1 5C for all others. Fort six of "Amerika" will be shown tonight on WLOS 13 at 9:00 p.m. Tonight the USSR uses brute force in Washington D.C, while the UNSS regains its control in Milford. "Amerika" stars Robert Urich, Sam Neil, and Wendy Hughes. Saturday Feb. 21 LMP will sponsor Downhill Ski Day at Hawks Nest. The cost is $30. Advanced registration at the first floor of the U.C. The Ashevilie Symphony Orchestra will present violinist Margaret Batjer in concert. Ms. Batjer was the first prize winner in the National Young Artist Competition in 1977. She will perform the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, and Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs). Robert Hart Baker will conduct. Tickets for the concert are available at the Ashevilie Civic Center Box Office in advance or at the door. Admission is $8.00 for adults, and $4.00 for students. Sunday Feb. 22 Winners of the Ivey's Young Artists' Competition will perform in Saint- Saens "Carnival of the Animals." The concert will be held at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, The Civic Center, in Ashevilie at 2:30 p.m. Price is $1.00 for children and adults. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Student Movement will hold a Taco dinner and organizational meeting at the church at 6:00 p.m. The church is on Highway 107 between Cullowhee and Sylva. All students are invited. If you need a ride, call 586-9549. Monday Feb. 23 The English Club is inviting everyone to go roller-skating tonight at the Franklin Skating Rink. Everyone who wants to go, (you don't have to be an English major), should meet in the Music/English Building at6:00 p.m. The group will return around 9:30 p.m. Cost will be $1.50 plus money to cover whatever snacks you wa nt to buy. Art Work of the Week Artist: Edwin Carlton Major: BFA — Art Title: "Leo and Stan" Feb. 13, 1987 Club Nouveau to Perform in Hoey "Club Nouveau" who's two hits "Situation *9" and "Lean on Me" have been climbing the charts, will be appearing in concert in the Hoey Auditorium on February 25. The California based group has been enjoying growing national attention since its formation last June. In addition to their popular album, the group has received notoriety in musical publications such as "Billboard" and "Black Radio Exclusive". In addition to these accomplishments they just finished their second video in December. Jay King, Denzil Foster, Samuelle Prater, Valerie Watson and Thomas McElroy are the talented members of "Club Nouveau", most of whom were associated with the "Timex Social Club". Intact "Club Nouveau"was the brain-storm of Jay King, the motivating force of the group. According to Jay, many oi mis musical ideas were not completed with "Timex Social Club", and he wanted a follow-up group. All members of "Club Nouveau" share Jay's enthusiasm fortheirfuture. They see themselves asa "family" and as Denzil puts it "I would be doing this even if ^wasn't making any money." The LMP sponsored "Club Nouveau" appearance promises to be a truly enjoyable performance. Tickets for the concert are now on sale. The prices are $3 for students and $5 for non-students.
