Stroud Resigns Judy Stroud, women's basketball coach at Western Carolina University for the past four years, resigned her position Monday afternoon. Stroud, a 30-year old McDowell County native, is leaving coaching to enter private business. She has been a very loyal and dedicated employee," added Waters. Stroud said she will leave Western Carolina "with mixed emotions". "It's tough to leave a great group of young ladies and fellow coaches and a place I love so much, but I've been presented with a fantastic business opportunity that comes along once in a lifetime," she explained. Stroud posted a 46-58 record in four seasons, including last season's 7-19 mark. Stroud became the third women's basketball coach in the history of WCU's program in August, 1981. Marks and Remarks by Mark Haskett Sports Editor I hope everyone is through wiping awav the tears from this past weekend when the basketball season for all ACC and Southern Conference schools, came to an abrupt end. last Saturday Georgetown defeated Georgia Tech. In Sunday's action Villenova upset North Carolina, and St. Johns thumped N.C. State. In the Nl 1 quarterfinal action Louisville knocked off UT-Chattenooga. So the Final Four in Lexington, Kentucky kind of resembles the Big East Tournament with three of the lour teams being from the Big 1 ast Conference. The only team not of the Big East is Memphis State. Georgetown, the defending national champion and number one team in the country, is led by the player of the year Patrick I wing. Ewing is on everybody's All-American list and will certainly be the first draft pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Ewing is aided by Bill Martin, David Wingate, Reggie Williams, and Michael Jackson. Georgetown will face St. Johns for the fourth time this season in one of the semifinal games. St. Johns is led by All- American Chris Mullin. Walter Berry and seven looter Bill Wennington. St. Johns has defeated Georgetown once this season, a fact that only one other team can claim. Villanova. the other Big East school faces All-American Keith Lee and the Memphis State 1 igers. Look lor Georgetown to nip St. Johns and Memphis State to deleat Villanova. And nowTormy pick in the championship game: drum roll please. Memphis State over Georgetown in a thriller. UT-Chattenooga was defeated by Louisville on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the NIT tournament. UTC had defeated Clemson and Lamar before facing Louisville. The Mocs represented the Southern Conference very well. INTRAMURALS 1. Men's Intramural Horseshoes.
