Western Carolinian/April 14, 1983 JlO Parents & Friends Day On Saturday, April 23, 1983, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences will be having its first annual Parents and Friends Day. Suggested and planned by the Dean's Student Advisory Committee, this will be a special day for you to show your parents and friends (boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, children, etc.) what WCU and your program are like. A picnic, dinner, baseball, volleyball, theater, and a bunch of other good stuff will be happening. The following is a schedule of the day's events with times and activities: 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. - Registration, Forsyth Auditorium 10:30 a.m. - Welcome, Chancellor Robinson and others 10:45 a.m. - Address by Thomas Hatch, Director, Bureau of Health Professions, Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, DC 11:30 a.m. - Picnic, Moore Hall 12:30 p.m. - Visit in Program Labs and Space with Faculty 1:30 p.m. - Attend WCU Baseball Game (Citadel) or win the School Volleyball Tournament 6:00 p.m. - Buffet Dinner, Dodson Cafeteria 7:30 p.m. - University Production - "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" We must have the number of you who are going to attend the Parent's Day because we need to purchasefood, tickets, and make final arrangements forthe day's activities. If you wish to attend, return the form, and send it with checks for the appropriate amounts, to the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Room 106 Moore Hall, Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC 28723, by April 19, 1983. (Theater tickets before April 8, 1983.) All tickets will be available at registration. Jackson County Health Clinic Monday (April 18) GENERAL CLINIC—8:00 am - 12:00 noon and I 00 - 4:30 pm. Immunizations, blood pressure checks, diabetic screening, pregnancy tests. No appointment necessary. MATERNITY CLINIC 9:00 am-12:00 noon. Complete prenatal care for pregnant women with team approach of nurses and physicians. Based upon income guidelines. By appointment only. WIC—8:00 am - 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm -4:30 pm. Nutrition education and certification for supplemental food packages for pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to five years of age. Based upon income guidelines. By appointment only. COMPREHENSIVE SCREENING CLINIC 1:00 pm -4:30 pm. Blood tests for diabetes, blood cholesterol, anemia, liver function. Also includes screening for high blood pressure, glaucoma, hearing, vision, lung disease, dietary adequacy, weight. EKG and educational session are part of this clinic. By appointment only. Tuesday (April 19) DIABETES-HYPERTENSION NUTRITION CLINK 8:00 am- 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm-4:30 pm. Nutrition counseling for patients with prescribed diets related to diabetes or hypertension. Must have doctor's referral. By appointment only. EPILEPTICAL AND NEUROLOGY DISORDER CLINK" 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Clinical examination and evaluation by a physician and laboratory test done related to problems with epilepsy and nervous system. Available to all residents in Western North Carolina. Must have doctor's referral. By appointment only. OTOLOGICAL CLINIC 8:30 am 12:00 noon. Examinations for chronic hearing, speech, and language problems by specialists for children age 0-21 years. By appointment only. Wednesday (April 20) DIABETES-HYPERTENSION NUTRITION CLINK 8:00 am - 12:00 noon. See Tuesday. HIGH RISK MATERNITY CLINIC 8:30 am-12:00 noon. Comprehensive services for pregnant women at high risk for poor pregnancy outcome. This clinic serves six Western Counties. Based upon income guidelines. By appointment only. FAMILY PLANNING CLINIC 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Physical examination, lab tests, birth control information and counseling (including natural methods and fertility), birth control methods. Available to all women who want to plan their families, lees based on family size and income. By appointment only. Thursday (April 21) NURSE SCREENING CLINIC 8:00 am- 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm-4:30 pm. Physical assessment, vision, hearing, dental screening, lab tests, nutritional counseling. Nurses screen children and make referrals to pediatricians and WIC. By appointment only. Friday (April 22) GENERAL CLINIC-8:00 am - 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. See Monday. CANCER CLINIC—8:00 am - 12:00 noon. Examinations and testing for oral, skin, abdominal and rectal cancer, Also includes: for women - examinations for breast, uterine, vaginal cancer: for men - examinations for prostrate and testicular cancer. Includes educational session. By appointment only. WIC—8:00 am - 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
