"THE BEST" Southern Comfofj Hooper...from page 1 William Holden 1918-1981 'The play is done; the curtain drops, Slow falling to the prompters bell: A moment yet the actor stops, And looks around to say 'Farewell!' Switching from the past to future, Mr. Hooper talked about the planned construction of the activities center to be placed by the stadium and how this would be a benefit to the county. With the planned building the county could hold such events as conventions and hearings. Mr. Hooper also pointed out that growth in the university means growth to the county. When asked about student voting, the commissioner stated that if a student was eligible to vote in this county, he hoped that the student would take the opportunity to participate in local government. Mr. Hooper felt that students living in the dorm and having their residence elsewhere should still participate in the voting process in their own county. Lastly, Mr. Hooper spoke about the issue of stray dogs and county ordinances. He explained that there exists a direct relationship between the population and the number of problems. He responded that it was not the county's duty to take care of these animals. But, he felt the university would help the county out financially once it had a program rolling and that the county and university would work something out. As far as county ordinances concerning dogs Mr. Hooper stated the county would go with vaccination laws rather than strict leash laws. This, he explained, would allow a better chance for the animals to make it back to their owners. All in all, Mr. Hooper seemed to have a very positive attitude about having a university in the center of his county. Looking to the future of this university and its relationship to the county, one can only hope that more of the positive view Mr. Hooper holds will be continued. 1 2 J 4 5 I I 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 B 19 ■j 21 22 23 f 24 25 27 ■ 29 1 31 ■ 33 34 3b 36 37 38 39 40 <) 42 13 ACROSS 25.
