  • Organizations and Events Art Exhibit An exhibit of original prints from Russia scheduled to open Nov. 10 in the art gallery of Western Carolina University's Belk Building has been postponed indefinitely and will be replaced by a three-man print show featuring the works of Tom Hammond, Evan Lindquist and Ronald Lukasiewicz. Sponsored by WCU's department of art, the show will open with a 7 p.m. public reception Monday, Nov. 10, and remain on display through Dec. 5. Hammond is an associate professor of art at the University of Georgia and a former art instructor at WCU. His works in the show will include lithographs, intaglio and engraving media. He has participated in more than one hundred one-man shows, invitations and competitive exhibitions. Lindquist, professor of art at Arkansas State k * COLE QUITS Natalie Cole is a cigarette smoker. She's going to call it quits during the Great American Smokeout. Join heron November 20. Because quitting is easier when you do it with a friend. THE PLEDGE I do solemnly swear to give up smoking or help a friend give up smoking for the Great American Smokeout, November 20. I promise not to smoke for 24 hours (and maybe longer), or to help a friend quit. American Cancer Society f University, will be exhibiting recent engravings. His works have appeared in more than 120 juried exhibitions and 40 one-man exhibitions with more than 60 awards to his credit from competitive exhibitions. Lukasiewicz is preparator at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia and an accomplished silk screen printmaker. He has considerable teaching experience and broad professional experience. He currently serves as a consultant to Holt, Rinehart and Winston of New York. Volleyball Marathon Pepsi-Cola and WWCU Radio are sponsoring a Volleyball Marathon for Easter Seal on November 21 and 22 at the Camp Lab School in Cullowhee. The money raised in the event will go toward the purchase of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, and leg braces; purchase of transportation to medical facilities; providing speech and hearing clinics; sending physically handicapped children and adults to a special Easter Seal Camp, and many other services. The Blue Ridge Region serves the 20 western most counties of North Carolina. All persons interested in getting together a team for the Marathon has until November 17 to do so. Christmas Bazaar The annual Christmas bazaar at Western Carolina University's Hinds University Center will be held Nov. 18 and 19. There is no charge for admission. Womanless Pageant A beauty pageant? The annual Thanksgiving Womanless Pageant will be held on Nov. 20, 1980 at 8:00 p.m. in Hoey Auditorium. 50 cents admission will be charged at the door. All donations will go to needy families in Jackson County, through the Department of Social Services. This pageant is sponsored by Alpha Phi Omega. Prizes for winners are: Queen will receive roses, and a free dinner for two, at Mr. K's seafood house.
