C, December 11, 1948 Published By Student Ass'n^ Campus Christmas Program Features Tree Dance Held In Gym Music By Teddy Martin An outside Christmas tree around which students and faculty can gather to sing carols is the feature of this year's Christmas program on the campus. It was suggested by men students who have offered to do the decorating. The tree to be decorated is on the right of the steps leading to Davies hall. Several special programs have heen planned to carry out the •'spirit of Christmas. The first of 'these was the Christmas dance, sponsored by the Veterans Club, which was held in the gymnasium Frilay night. The gym was decorated in Christmas colors. Teddy Martin and his orchestra furnished the music. The Women's House government is having a pa jama party Wednesday night in Moore Parlors. The Chorus and Choral Club will combine their voices to present a special program in the au- ^errg QUirtstntas For some time the staff of the Western Carolinian has been conscious of the Christmas spirit that has afflicted our students In town we are pleasantly annoyed by the ringing of bells on the street corners and the good-natured jostling of the Christmas shoppers, all harbingers of the holiday observing the birth of Christ. For all of us at WCTC the beginning of the Christmas holjdays will mean a long rest from studies, a chance to renew acquaintances with relatives and old friends. It ditorium Tuesday. The music to be presented is a cantata with the familiar carols and the "Hallelujah Chorus." The young people of the Baptist Church, under the direction of Mr. McConnell, will have charge of the assembly program Thursday. Several students on the campus have already decorated individual trees for their rooms. In addition to these and the tree in front of Davies, Robertson already has a Christmas tree which was decorated by Mrs. Cathey and Miss Hammond. The tree in Moore will be decorated Monday by Miss Albright, Mrs. Hall, and members of the Women's House Government council. will mean more, for the spirit of giving increases each season and countless joys will also be experienced on Christmas morn. We of the Western Carolinian, like so many others at WCTC, are youngsters at heart and the joys of receiving have been known to mean more to us than the much- publicized spirit of giving. After careful consultation with our Santa, we have compiled a list of items which would look very good under the Christmas tree at WCTC and the bewhisker- ed gent has assured us that these little items may be obtained through the cooperation of all concerned. First there is the task of building. Santa says that if there is cooperation we.shall have a new Classroom building by next Christmas. He will also throw in an adequate sewage disposal system along with the building program. Santa also gives us a large box of hope for a successful basketball season. Another package with a red ribbon contains the promise of a unified school spirit and one hundred percent backing at all games. Well, we believe we asked for enough for this Christmas. The staff and members of the Western Carolinian wish you all a HAPPY HOLIDAY ! ! Campus Eevents Schedule This schedule is complete up to the issue of the WESTERN CAROLINIAN.
