The meeting began with a reading of the minutes for the last meeting and then moved on to various committee reports. Many items were brought up by the committees that had reports to give. These included a discussion of the meal ticket plan, which is currently being studied for improvement. One possible action that was mentioned was the realignment of the way the plans are set up for 15 or 21 meals. The committee decided that further study of the situation was necessary. Another item discussed was the practice of charging students to be let back in their rooms after being locked out. Senator Steven Fowler was sworn in as dorm senator from Reynolds. The ceremony seemed to take more time than was necessary and exemplified the senate's concern with proper procedure. Throughout the meeting there were constant delays as Vice-President Lee Cheek tried to explain the correct procedure for making motions, posing questions and voting. In old business, the senate voted on Senate Resolution no. 930, which involved the establishment of a "steering committee" to assist the Vice-President in various problems. The proposition met with many questions though, and V.P. Cheek took the floor to defend the bill which was set up entirely by him and involved no other senate study. A motion was raised to allow the senate a hand in the selection of the committee, but it was decided in a split vote that Cheek would be allowed to set up the committee himself, mainly because it would be working solely with him. New business consisted of Senate Resolution no. 929 which was set up to appoint Prof. William R. Latimer as the faculty adviser to the senate. Dr. Latimer has served in this position before and seemed in good favor with the students. The bill was passed unanimously. After a lecture by V.P. Cheek on the type of excuses that would be accepted for missed meetings, the various committees scheduled meetings for this coming week and the session was adjourned.
