  • Organizations and Events- Inter-Faith Softball The Inter-faith Coed Softball League began its first season Sunday afternoon with three very good games. In the first game the Baptist Student Center beat the Wesley Foundation 14-5. The Baptists were lead by Velvet Vestal. She went 2 for 3 and reached base once on an error. She scored three times. The Wesleys were lead by Richard Sigmond who went 2 for 3, and Rick Scoronce who hit a home run. In the second game the Intervarsity held off a late rally by the Cullowhee Convent Fellowship to beat them 7-5. Going into the bottom of the final inning the I.V. lead 7-1 until the fellowship rallied, but fell short. Phil Woody and Jamie Clevland looked very good in the field for the fellowship while David Cramer's hitting kept the Intervarsity on top. The final game put the Catholic Student Center against the Presbys. The game proved to be a pitching duel in the early innings between the Catholic's Barbara Hullory, who struck out 3, and the Presby's Susan Conard. Both pitched shutout ball for the first two innings. The Catholic Student Center eventually won a low scoring 4-3 decision. It is interesting to note that two of the three Presby runs were scored by women. The league play will continue this Sunday with 3 more games: 2:00 Presbys vs. Fellowship 3:00 Wesley Foundation vs. Intervarsity 4:00 B.S.U. vr.. Catholic Student Center Faculty Recitals The first program of the new year in WCU's faculty recital series will begin at 8 p.m., Sept. 25 in the recital hall of the Music-English Building. She teaches music history at WCU and is organist for the First United Methodist Church in Waynesville. Buckner, a new member of the Western faculty, will perform an exciting trumpet work by Henri Tomasi.
