  • Organizations and events LMP films Any student interested in joining the Film Committee of Last Minute Productions please telephone L.M.P. at the U.C. and leave your name and telephone number or call Lavern Oxendine at #6057. The Film Committee is in the process of selecting both cultural and modern popular films for the academic year of 1980-81. So, if you want to help select next year's movies please get involved in the student programming committee of WCU. Ski trip Last Minute Productions will sponsor a Ski Trip to Cataloochee Ski Resort Friday, February 15. The cost for transportation, ski rental, and lift tickets is $8 for students with a valid I.D. and only $6 if you have your own skis. On Sunday, February 17, Last Minute Productions will sponsor a Cross Country Ski Trip to Clingman's Dome area. The cost for transportation, ski rental, and instruction is $10 for non-students, $8 for students without skis, and $6 for students who have their own skis. Deadline for signing up for each of the trips is Thursday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. and you must go by Cullowhee Outfitters to be fitted for skis by 6 p.m. Thursday. Capacity for each of these trips is limited to 12 people. For more information, call Last Minute Productions at 227-7479. University Center. Students may pick up available tickets at no charge by presenting a current I.D. card before 5 p.m. on the day of the performanee. Students will not be admitted at the door without a current I.D. card and a reserved ticket. All students tickets at the box office will be $2. Short stories Registration for "The American Short Story" course, offered at WCU in conjunction with the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) television series is still being accepted by the WCU Division of Continuing Education. Dr. Marilyn Jody of the WCU English faculty will be instructing the university portion of the course which is presented in conjunction with the 13-part television series airing Mondays at 9 p.m. on PBS affiliates. Dr. Jody will conduct three evening class discussions on the series on Feb. 26, March 25 and April 29, in Room 301 of the WCU Music-English Building from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Included in the course fee of $12.50 is a copy of the required text for the course, a commercially prepared "viewer's guide." To register for the course and obtain a copy of the guide, contact the WCU Division of Continuing Education, Room 440, University Administration/ Mountain Heritage Center, telephone 227-7397. Viewing facilities for those wishing to take the course but whose television sets do not receive PBS broadcasts will be in Room G9 of Stillwell Building on the Western campus. It is open to all interested persons, novices as well as more experienced corn husk craft enthusiasts. A kit of materials will be available in class for $3.50. Participants are asked to bring to class a pair of old scissors, needlenose vvirecuttcis, one or two old towels, .mil three-quarter inch masking tape. Enrollment is limited to 15 persons. Volleyball Duke concert Student Tickets for the February 20th Duke Ellington Concert and for the February 28th Barter Theatre Production are available at the information desk in the Corn flowers Western Carolina University's Division of Continuing Education will offer a course in the construction and arrangement of corn husk flowers beginning Feb. 18 in Room 118 Forsyth Building on the WCU campus from 7 ,o9p.m. Men and Women volleyball begins Monday, February 25th. Sign-ups are on Monday, February 18th. Badminton Doubles (Sorority and Independent) begin Thursday, February 28th on Reid Main Floor. Sign-ups for Mixed Tennis Doubles begins Monday, February 18th and ends Thursday, February 21st. Sign-ups for Men's Wrestling begins Monday, February 25th through Thursday, February 28th. SUMMER INTERNSHIPS Attention Business and Political Science majors: WCU has been invited to nominate two students for a possible internship with the Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force for the Summer of 1980. The internship would be as a civilian employee and the location will be at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The salary range is $386.40 to 929.80 biweekly, depending upon qualifications. If you are interested, contact the Placement Office as soon as possible for further information regarding application procedures. IMPORTANT DATES February 15-Last date to make application for PACE exam. March 1-Application deadline for Washington Center for Learning Alternatives Summer Internship. April 15-Deadline for application for many summer jobs with the Federal Government. Deadlines have already passed for summer employment with the National Park Service and for clerical positions with the Federal Government.
