  • PAGE 12/ THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/October 4. 1979 Homecoming Homecoming Week 1979 will be from Monday, October 22, through Saturday, October 27, 1979. This year, as in years past, a Homecoming Queen will be elected by the student body. In choosing candidates tor the election the following criteria should be followed: 1. All recognized student organizations may enter a candidate or any group ot 25 students who have their signatures on paper. 2. The deadline for submitting names will be Oct. 10 at 12 noon. Names should be submitted at the Secretary's desk, first floor of the University Center. 3. Entrants must be a registered female student at WCU. 4. Entrants must submit an 8" x 10" black and white glossy photo. 5. There will be seven ladies on the court. 6. The voting procedure is as follows: The first vote by the student body will be Thursday, Oct. 11 and students will vote for three ladies. The seven candidates with the most votes in that election will make up the Homecoming Court. The second vote will be on Thursday, Oct. 25, and each student will vote lor one of those seven. This is in response to commuter and evening students who could not have ID's made during the day. ID s will also be made 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, October 20th. Army pays According to officials in the Department of Military Science, over $12,700 was paid this month to juniors and seniors enrolled in the ROTC program here at Western. This amount represents a record high for the department and reflects the tremendous increase in enrollment in the program over the past two years. Voting for each election will take place in front of the UC from 8 am till 5 pm. The Homecoming Parade will begin at 10:00 on Saturday morning, October 27. All campus organizations and other groups are urged to construct floats and participate in this year's event. Tentatively, floats must report to the parking area behind the Baptist Church by 9:15 am. A committee will judge the passing floats from the judges table at the Bird Building. Winners will receive awards during halftime of the Homecoming game in the following areas: 1. Fraternities, 2. Sororities, 3. Residence halls and 4. Other organizations. The Chancellor's Award will then be given to the overall outstanding parade entry. Every entry should have a representative available at half-time to receive awards. All float entries should be submitted to the first floor information desk at the UC by 5:00 on October 12.
