The schedule, release from the conference office by Commissioner Kenneth G. Germann, begins January 5 when Appalachian State and Furman, last year's tournament finalists, clash at Memorial Auditorium, Greenville, S.C. NBC/TVS will screen the tournament's championship game, for the first time ever, on March 1 from the Roanoke, Va. Civic Center. A first round game on Februrary 23, with site to be determined, will also be telecast. Other regular season games selected by NBC/TVS include Western Carolina at the Citadel on January 12, and Western Carolina at Marshall on February 9. Appalachian, Furman, Western Carolina and The Citadel were lournamenl semi-finalists last March. Appalachian's 86-83 championship final win over Furman advanced the Mountaineers to the National Collegiate tournament, where they lost, 71-57, to L.S.U. in the first round. Bill O'Donnell, veteran sportscaster, will handle the play-by-play. Larry Conley, former University of Kentucky star, does the color commentary Stations included on the Southern regional network will be announced at a later date.
