The grant, which will run for a 30-month period, will be used to establish a three-track laboratory for "Contemporary Physics," a one-semester course required of many non-science majors. Ted Moody, WCU associate professor of physics who will coordinate the grant, said that all students taking the course would attend the same lectures, but that separate laboratory tracks would be developed for nursing majors, medical technologists, and students majoring in the fine arts. Funds from the grant will be used to video-tape between 10 and 12 experiments for each of the three tracks, allowing students to complete their laboratory work at their own pace. The course will cover matter, atomic theory, wave motion, and atomic and nuclear physics, Moody said. Europe trip slots available Positions are still available for the Architecture and Interiors trip to Europe this summer. The date of the trip has been changed to June 27 through July 24. The trip includes visits to London, Paris, Munich, Vienna, Milan, Forence and Rome. Three hours academic credit is also available for students attending the trip. The cost of the trip is $1595 from New York City with special air rates available to New York if students register before May 27. To be eligible for the three hours credit an additional $126 will be charged for tuition and fees. Students interested in the trip should contact David Harrison at 227-7230. NCAA wants college playoffs COLORADO Springs, Colo. (AP)—A committee of the National Collegiate Athletic Association reportedly has voted in favor of establishing an annual national collegiate football championship. Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles, a member of the NCAA's Extra Events Committee, was quoted by the Colorado Springs Sun in a copyright story today as saying the eight-member committee voted unanimously Tuesday to endorse a football playoff beginning at the conclusion of the 1980 season. The plan reportedly calls for two semifinal games and a championship contest, all to be held after the regular post-season bowl games. The four finalists would be chosen after the bowl games by a selection committee, and the title game would be played on the weekend prior to the National Football League's Super Bowl. Broyles was quoted as saying that representatives of the bowls were opposed to the change, "but a lot of people are eager and anxious to have a playoff.'' The playoff proposal reportedly will be presented to the steering committee of the NCAA Council at its meeting this week in Denver. If approved there, the proposal would be placed on the agenda of the annual NCAA convention next January for a final vote.
