The ceremony will include a dedication concert by pianist Eugene List. Dr. H.F. Robinson, WCU chancellor, will preside at the dedication. Vice Chancellor for Development and Special Services James Dooley will speak on the history and planning of the building, and Dr. Phillip Wade and Dr. Thomas Tyra, heads of the departments of English and music, will present the building. It will be accepted for the WCU Board of Trustees by board chairman James Glenn of Asheville. The dedication will be preceded by conducted tours of the building, starting at 7 p.m. List's performance in the area came during the 1976 Cullowhee Music Festival, when he and his wife, violinist Carroll Glenn, were artists in residence. List has performed on every continent and in all 50 states. The roster of major orchestras and conductors with whom he has performed, both here and abroad, reads like a "Who's Who" of the musical world. His name has been synonymous with the best in piano music ever since he played the American premiere of the Shostakovich 1st Piano with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski in 1934. Tonight at 8:15 p.m. the WCU Symphonic Band will present a joint concert with WCU choral ensembles. The Concert Choir will perform the Poulenc "Gloria," and the band will perform a variety of selections, including "Catamount March," a piece written for the band by composer Maurice Weed of the Balsam community. Other works on the program include the Old 100th Psalm Tune, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Vincent Persichetti's "Celebrations," with a text taken from "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman. Conductors will include Dr. Joyce Farwell, WCU choral director, and Dr. Joseph Scagnoli, director of bands. Admission to both events is free to the public. SEuifi WCU's Music-English Building will be dedicated Friday in ceremonies capping a week of pre-dedication activities. The 72,500-square-foot building includes a 420 seat Music Recital Hall, practice facilities for band, chorus, and individual music students, classrooms, and faculty offices. The building was designed by the architectural firm of Foy and Lee of Waynesvllle. It was completed in 1978 at a cost of $2,530,000. Tours of the building will be offered beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
