  • SEPTEMBER 14, 1978/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/PAGE 13 Letters, more letter* A response In response to the letter to the editor on p.i Lambda Chi President Hobgood replies; h> begin with, Ihe party at the Lambda Chi Alpha house was a closed rush party, open only to invited guests. It vvas stated in vour letter that (he English nil) decided logo. If he decided to go, evidently he wasn't invited bv one of ihe brothers of our fraternity. When Someone enters one of our parties, it is our responsibility to Hud oul if thev were united, rhe particular party in question was. as mentioned before, a rush party, and tree beer vvas being served. Since the beer was paid tor bv the dues of ihe brothers ol our fraternity. there can In- no question as to our preference ol guests we invite and consequently, share our house and beer with. As tar as ihe tellow being normally dressed. I don't know too many people who come to a party wearing a long sleeve shirt, baseball eap, tie anil winter sweater al this time of the vear. 1 his in itself isn't important, bill (he fact thai he wasn't inv ited is. Especially al rush parties, we. as well as many Other fraternities, are very cautious about w ho is inv ned and keeping tin- uninvited guests oui. When our Kgt. alarms asked (his fellow to leave, he was not forced out. Our fraternity prefers to handle matters such as (his in a friendly manner. The Kriglish tellow either didn't take the hint or chose to ignore it. Either way, he still was there out of his own prerogative, and not out ot tin- invitation ot one of our members. After this, another one ot our members asked him to leave, and he turned around and walked oft. I hat's when hi- was stopped Siu have to set limits on matters like (his one, and after exhausting the normal courteous, il vvas necessary lor us lo insist upon his leaving. II ai anv other tune someone is invited to out party bv a lambda (In. he is openly welcome, bin if not. why insist on being priviledged and above everyone else, as this English fellow seemed lo think he was II we let one person slide, we would not be right by asking others io leave. Ihe brothers ot tins fraternity work haul ami pav dues just to continue as a fraternity, I llunk il is our right to lake whalcvei action-, necessary to control our parties. We have a new house and would like lo keep it, As a fraternity W ith a house-. more fortunate than other fraternities al WCU, we feel it is our responsibility to invite naiti whom we want, not serve as a bar tor anvon. who wants to have a place to drink beer.
