According to WCU office of public information director, Doug Reed, all organizations, students, faculty and staff, can call in meeting announcements and events to his office to be included in the weekly WCU Calendar. Former Western Carolinian editor A. E. Brown, Jr. urged students to use this calendar rather than calling in announcements directly to the paper. The Western Carolinian now publishes its own calendar which is largely taken from the office of public information. "Having the meetings on the calendar would save the staff a lot of work, and would prevent redundancies in the classifieds," Brown said. Copy for the following week is to be in the office of public information, Belk 207, by noon Thursday of the preceding week.
