The girl who is selected Miss Catamount could be the next Miss America, since she will compete in the Miss North Carolina Pageant to be held in early June in Winston Salem. Now is the time to decide for any young woman at Western who qualifies. Bob Self, business manager and general chairman, said in calling for candidates to enter the pageant. Ron Whittemore. director of the pageant, announced that the Pageant will be conducted the Wednesday night of February 18 in Hoey Auditorium. Applications can be obtained at the UC Information Desk or room 225 Forsyth, and must be returned by January 14 to 225 Forsyth or to the Catamount office Joyner building. To qualify, a young woman must be between the ages of 17 and 28 on the Labor Day holiday, must be a high school graduate, and must never have been married. Judging will be based on the same values as considered at the Miss North Carolina Pageant and at the national Miss America Pageant. Personality, poise, beauty, and talent are the major requirements. Each contestant will be judged in private interview and on stage personality, in swimsuit. and in the presentation of her talent. THURSDAY* JANUARY 8. 1976 ["HE WKSTERN CAROLINIAN FrankThomas new business head Frank Thomas, a junior business major from Winston Salem. has been selected Business Manager of the Western Carolinian following the graduation of Vikki DeSoto. DeSoto. who was elected Business Manager last spring in a campus election. graduated "earlier than she expected." Thomas was named Business Manager by the Executive Committee ofthe newspaper. "1 am excited about the job and 1 hope I do as good of a job as Vikki did." said Thomas of his new position. Previously Thomas was an ad salesman for the Carolinian. Page 5
