OCTOBER 16, 1975 Carolinian Briefs The WCU Chess Club held its first meeting last Wednesday- night in the UC, Five members were present, The club is rated fourth in North Carolina Intercollegiate competition, with some members ranking nationally in the U.S. Chess Federation. The club meets once a week, 6:30 on Wednesday nights in the UC, and attends tournaments and other functions without benefit of budget or advisor from the university. The members urge all interested students and faculty to attend the meetings. Chess pieces, and boards, may be checked out at first floor of the UC. There will be a Veteran organizational meeting next Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 4 p.m. in Scott 108. Plans to visit Oteen will be discussed and football practice will follow the meeting. Dick Davis, formerly affiliated with both Navigators and Campus Crusade for Christ, and present youth minister for Bent Creek Baptist Church in Asheville, will speak on "Application of Faith to the Christian Life," tonight at 7 p.m. in the Joyner Building, second floor. The group picture for Alpha Phi Sigma will be taken Tuesday, October 21, at 4 p.m, in front of Joyner Building, Desperately need two rides to Greenville, NC this weekend. Will share gas and beer. Contact Debby or Shirley at 293-5819 after 6 p.m. All students interested in the publication of the 1976 NOMAD should meet in McKee 216, Monday, October 20 at 4 p.m. Officers and committees will be chosen. If vou are interested, yet cannot attend, please contact Mr, Paulk in McKee 216. Art Students League will sponsor a field trip to the Craftmen's Fair in Gatlinburg, TN on Thurs., Oct. 23, leaving Belk at 11:30 a.m., and returning at night. Cost includes transportation and admission to the fair. Please call 210 or stop by the art dept. office to sign up. Two weed tromps will be sponsored by the Outing Club and the UCB, this Saturdav. Doug Elliot, of "Weeds for your needs" fame , is leading these excursions. The tromps will begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Meet at the U.C, for these 2 events. Alpha Phi Omega will be selling mum corsages for the homecoming football game. Orders will be taken in both cafeterias on Oct, 22,23, and 24 during the dinner hours (4:30 - 6:00), Cost - S2.
