Governor attacks gay student groups PAGE 7 (CPS)-Despite a court setback, New Hampshire Governor Meldrim Thomson has pledged to continue his battle to rid the state of homosexual student groups. Earlier, Thomson had succeeded in forcing the University of New Hampshire to ban the Gay Students Organization from holding dances or other social functions on the system's campuses. Thomson had threatened that if the university did not "rid your campuses of socially abhorrent activities," he would oppose "the expenditure of one more cent of taxpayer's money for your institutions." That ban, however, was lifted last month when a U. S. Court of Appeals ruled that it violated the students' constitutional rights. The court said that the university could regulate "overt sexual behavior, short of criminal activity, which may offend the community's sense of propriety, so lotTg as it acts in a fair and equitable manner," but ruled that in this case there was no improper conduct. Governor Thomson commented that the court decision "doesn't mean the battle is over by any means-and you can emphasize that latter point."
