Many of the onlookers will be there to see their WCU team for the first time in six weeks while others will be there to see if the Catamounts new head coach can turn them into a winner. A lot has happened to the Cats since their last home game back on IX-cember 4. However, what most of the WCU fans remember is that the Cats have lost four in a row and their head coach for the past five and one-half seasons resigned and a new coach has taken over. Jim Hartbarger resigned last Sunday in the midst of a 5-7 campaign and Fred Conley, his assistant for the past six months, was elevated to the head coach post for the remainder of this season. "We can do it, but it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication from this team and a lot of support from the student body and our other fans," he said. "I am adjusting to this new situation and the players are adjusting to me. They are a little confused at this time with all the developments," he con* tinued. "We are making some changes and it will take some time for all of it to sink in. It is mental," he said. Ski Club to sponsor meet Fri. The Western Carolina Ski Club will sponsor the first of six intercollegiate ski races this Friday at Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie. The contest will feature teams from five other colleges and Western, including Clemson (which will serve as co-hosts for the event) University of Tennessee, Appalachian State U„ Lees McRae, and the University of the South. Western will be featuring 4 men and 3 women in individual races. The meet is tentatively scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, weather permitting. There is no admission charge.
