Dr. Dan Pittillo is the owner of the misplaced tree. However, he still has to buy bananas, since his tree has produced only six this year. Pittillo has had the tree for six years now, and in that time the tree has borne bananas only two times, each three years apart. Three years ago the tree bore 16 bananas. This weird occurrence has led Pittillo to suggest that it is a triennial tree. The tree had been in the biology department's green house since Pittillo obtained it from the University of Georgia. During that time Pittillo has taken care of the tree, but over the summer the box in which the tree was planted broke open, so Pittillo had to replant the tree outside. Pittillo thinks the coming frost may take Cullowhee's only- banana tree away forever. It's fun to be a volunteer. If you can spend some time, even a few hours, with someone who needs a hand, not a handout, call your local Voluntary Action Center, or write to: ".Volunteer",Washington, D.C. 20m \ jt£m&i.
