Speech and Theatre Arts will present one-act plays SENATE ELECTION A special election to fill a vacant day-student senator seat in the Student Senate will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24. Any student wishing to run for the seat must come by the office of the vice-president of SGA (second floor of the University Center) and fill out a filing slip. Filing dates will be February 15 through February 21, COFFEE HOUSE February 16, University Center Board presents a Coffeehouse in the Snackbar, University Center at 7:30. Featuring - Good music, Poetry, and delightful comedy with cinema from the years of laughter by Chaplin, Keystone Cops and others. Don't miss it—it's free! ....FROM Page 1 C°nCert Ihe second halt of the program will include "Four Slovak Folk Songs" arranged by Bela Bartok and folk songs from Japan and Hungary. Works by- Schubert, David Folts, and Randall Thompson will be heard, and the "Sabbath Prayer" from the popular musical production, "Fiddler on the Roof," will feature soprano Carol Vaughan. The program will be given in Hoey Auditorium and is open to students, faculty and general public at no charge. IRlo STEf\V< £.L\5 of tat io p«^u:^^fe,/*, On the evenings of Feb. 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. the Department of Speech and Theatre Arts of Western Carolina Uni= versity will present a bill of one=act plays in the Little Theatre. The plays are : "Manj Are Called," an original script by senior Dan Spaugh, directed by Linda Black, a junior from Springfield, Va.; "Chamber Music," by Arthur Kopit, directed by Louis Bell, a junior from Randleman; "Winners," by Brian Freil, directed by Janus Yates, a sophomore from Greenville, S.C. "Many Are Called," is about college life today. The cast includes James B. Wood, a senior from Andrews; Gary Waldron, a junior from Barton, Florida; Loren Montgomery, a freshman from Franklin; Bobby Funk, a freshman from Hender son, and Danny Holloman, sophomore from Raleigh. David Hearst, a junior from Asheville is stage manager and Gary Waldron designed the set. "Chamber Music," an absurdist play, takes place in a mental institution with such characterizations as Joan of Arc. Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, etc. The cast of'eight women and two men includes: Deborah Lewis, a senior and Vernelle Mills, a junior from Asheville; Sonja Beckham , a sophomore from Franklinton; Cathy Dixon, sophomore from Brevard; Sue Coffey, a junior from Hayesville; Andrea Brack, junior, Cullowhee; Eugenia Jennings, a senior from Thomas- ville; Marilyn Chandler, freshman, Mars Hill; Randy Zart- man, a sophomore from News- mantown, Pa.; David Murphy, sophomore, Franklin; Pam Mobley, a sophomore from 1-ex- ington, is stage manager and Cathy Dixon , set designer. "Winners" is a tragicomedy concerning young lovers and is narrated by a man and woman who fortell the couple's impending tragedy. The cast consists of: Debi Mathis, a freshman from Weaverville; John Clark, sophomore, Henderson; Tara Wilson, a senior from Beaufort, S.C.; William Wells, sophomore, Wallace; Phillip Emerson, a junior from Cullowhee; Steve Warren, sophomore, Sylva. There will be three classes of competition: Individual, small groups ( 6 members and under), and larger groups (6 members and over). Entrance fees are $1.50 for individuals, $2. 00 for small groups, and $3.00 for large groups. Contestants must provide their own accompaniment.
