Wielhorski was born in War- 24—hour course in speed reading Southwestern Technical Institute will sponsor a 24-hour, non-credit course in Speed Reading. The class will meet from January 6th through Feb= uary 24th on Thursday nights from 6:30 until 9:30 at Southwestern Tech in Room 117. This class will provide the opportunity for laboratory experiences in the improvement of reading skills. This course will stress comprehension, memory retention, vocabulary building and rapid reading. Students who complete this course will find that their reading proficiency has greatly improved in work as well as in reading for pleasure. Miss Mary McKenzie, graduate assistant in the Reading Clinic will teach the course. There will be no instructional charge, but there will be a book fee of $4.00. Anyone over 18 (with an average reading ability) who is interested in this class should come for registration on January 6th or contact the Department of Adult Edu= cation at Southwestern Tech, phone 586-4091. In 1964 he received his Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts In Warsaw. Wielhorski defected from Poland, established residency in Paris, and in 1965 received a scholarship from the French Ministry of Education to organize an art program at the Institut des Beaux Arts, Belle vue, Republic of Guinea, Africa. Later, on a tour of Europe, he studied the art of Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia. In 1967, Wielhorski decided to establish residency in the United States. He has taught on the elementary and secondary level in Dayton, Ohio and on the college level at the University of Dayton and the Elizabeth City State University. He came to Western in 1970. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University’s student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
