Offensive power and toe "Tuff Cat' defense, but toe heartbreaking final game loss will never be forgotten, at least not In toe record books. But, toe CATS WILL BE BACK. By Conrad Cardano .FROM Page 3 no one until now knows about it, DuringabaUgame and sometimes before a game I try to help Don keep loose. I'll do this in any number of ways- asking him if his arm is feeling OK or talking about a certain play or even cracking a joke when he comes off to toe sidelines. I remembered when we played the opening game this year against Carson-Newman, Although Don wouldn't admit it, I felt he was tight before toe game but I didn't say anything to him. His first three passes were intercepted. After toe third one he came off toe field and I felt I had to say something. As he was walking toward toe bench 1 walked up to him, trying to hide a smile and said: "You're getting too old cap." He broke out laughing and so did L He didn't throw another interception all day. I'm not saying toat what I said did toe trick because Coach Waters got ahold of him before I did, but I think it helped loosen him up. People have sometimes asked me what I'm thinking on the sidelines. Well, first of all, Pm thinking of nothing else but what's going on out on the playing field. When we're on offense I try to gues s what play Don will call. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I dont. Either way, I use this period of time as a way of learning. I find many times toat I'm very anxious to play so I can try a few plays toat I believe wiU go. Of course, I'm always hoping we will score. I have been fortunate enough to play a bit this year and I can't tell you how good it makes me feel, especially when we've won. I'm always ready to play under any kind of situation. I guess this Is partly due to Coach Waters. Coach very seldom gets excited, even in toe tightest situations. So I guess it's rubbed off a little. Another reason I'U always be ready to play is because of toe confidence I have in my abilities and especially in those of my teammates. Without those other ten men doing their jobs, you could be toe best quarterback in toe world, but toe system just wouldn't go. A good example of toat is taking a look at toe offensive statistics this year. You could not ask for a better line than You must be wondering what it's like for me not to play. Well, after we've won a game and I've not played toat day I feel empty. I'm happy sure— but not half as much, because I really didn't have a real part in it But you know, that empty feeling doesn't last long, because I look forward to toe week of practice coming up and then toat game on Saturday. And who knows, maybe another opportunity wiU arise to prove to my coach and my teammates that toe future holds a lot in store. o MO W 3
