Unaka and the Pisgah

  • circuitous and trends too far east for the route of the through Trail. It is however, of high scenic order with such outstanding peaks as Grandfather, Caesar’s head, Whiteside, Rabun Bald and Standing Indian. Although the higher, the western range is broken in the segments by the rivers, which rise against the western slopes of the Blue Ridge. Each segment there’s a different name, yet it is readily apparent that these segments are a part of the continuous western range. The nomenclature of the segment has been extremely confused. The Unaka and Pisgah section comprise the central portion of the western rim for a distance of 237 miles. They embrace the Iron, Unaka and Bald Mountain segments; slightly east lie the Stone. The New and Big Pigeon Rivers break through these sections to form, respectively, their northern and southern boundaries.
