42 NEW FACULTY MEMBERS IN 20 DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS Forty-two new faculty members - joined the University this fall for the beginning of the 1972-73 academic year. The newcomers reported to 19 departments and the Economic Development. Center, with 22 of them going to the School of Arts aria Sciences, nine each to the School of Business and the School of Education and Psychology, and two to the School of Health Sciences and Services. The largest gains were recorded in English, history, nursing, and sociology and anthropology, with four new faculty members in each of those departments. The Reporter welcomes each of the newcomers and, by way of presenting them to the rest of the University community, provides herewith a thumbnail sketch of each of them; Dr. Joseph Culbreth Alexander Jr., assistant professor of speech and theatre arts, comes to us from Ohio University. A graduate of Duke University and the Duke Divinity School, Dr. Alexander took both MA and Ph.D. degrees at Ohio. He and his wife, Sue, have three children. Suzanne Kay Allred, instructor in home economics, holds BS and MS degrees from the University of Tennessee. Miss Allred works with the_Model Child Development Center. Dr. Abbie Lloyd Bacon Jr. is an assistant professor of sociology. Married to the former Jon-eita Daniel, he has four children. Dr. Bacon did his graduate work at LSU and the University of Georgia. Dr. John Roger Bacon, assistant professor of chemistry, taught at Clemson before coming here. Dr. Bacon holds degrees from Kansas State U. and the U. of Iowa. He and his wife, Judy, have two children. Dr. John Alan Beegle is the new head of the Department of Accounting and Data Processing. A graduate of the University of Miami, he holds advanced degrees from that institution and St. Louis U. Dr. Beegle comes to us from Georgia Southern College. His wife's name is Marion, and they have four children. Dr. Tyler Blethan, assistant professor of history, holds.degrees from Bowdoin College and UNC-Chapel Hill. He and wife Debbie have one. son. Dr. Lee Palmer Budahl, associate professor of art, comes here from the University of Maryland. He took his Ph.D. there, and holds master's degrees from Wisconsin and San Francisco State College. He and his wife, Mary Ann, have three children. Anna Chaiko, assistant professor of home economics, holds degrees from Marywood College and UNC-Chapel Hill. Miss'Chaiko's field is nutrition, and she formerly taught at Marywood College. Francis Arthur Foster, assistant professor of art, is a graduate of Black Mountain College and the University of Oregon. He, his wife Ann, and their three children come to us from Montana State University. Cheryl Elaine Foust is em instructor in English. Miss Foust holds bachelor's and master's degrees from UNC-Greensboro. Dr. John Richard Fraker, assistant professor in management and marketing, is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He did graduate work there and at Clemson University. He and his wife, Martha Ann, have two children, Laurence Armand French, assisr tant professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, comes here from the University of New Hampshire, where he took both bachelor's and master'3 degrees. His wife's name is Nancy. William Woodward Hall Jr. has joined the staff of the Economic Development Center as an assistant professor. He is a graduate of Presbyterian College and Clemson University. William Pitt Head, instructor in English, comes to us from the University of Alabama. He did his undergraduate work at Huntington College. Jennie Lou Hunter is a new instructor in office administration. A graduate of Mars Hill College and WCU, Mrs. Hunter is the wife of WCU Assistant Professor James Hunter. She formerly taught at Southwestern Technical Institute. Dorsey Allan Jones, Instructor in English, holds degrees from the University of Florida and WCU. His wife is the former Marian Baxter. Michael Lewis Jones, assistant professor of accounting, holds degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. His wife is Carolyn. Paul Tim Jones Jr., a WCU graduate, is an instructor in health and physical education, He and his wife, Cathy, come here from West Georgia College. Dr. Ralph Carter Scott i» an , assistant professor of geography. Married to the' former Judith Laws. • he has two children. He is a graduate of Florida State University. Dr. Jackie Sellers, assistant professor of management, holds degrees from the University of Georgia. His wife's name is Brenda, and they have a daughter. William Reese Starnes Jr.,is an assistant professor in the Economic Development Center. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, he comes to us from the firm of R. S. Dickson, Powell, Kietler, and Crawford in Charlotte. He and his wife, Sybil, have five children. Laura Catherine Stutts, instructor in office administration, holds bachelor's and roaster's degrees from WCU. Dr. Thomas Samuel Warren, assistant professor of education, is a graduate of Berkshire Christian College, and did his graduate work at Florida State University. He and his wife, Leona, have three children. Dr. Richard Gene Wiggins, assistant professor of pscyhology, comes to us from Macon Junior College. A graduate of Asbury College, he did graduate work at Emory University and the University of Georgia. His wife's name is Lama. Carol A. Burmeister, instructor of nursing, is a graduate of East Carolina University. She comes here from the V. A. Hospital at Oteen. Rosa Louise Floyd, assistant professor of nursing,holds the BS . degree from Berea College, and the master's degree from Emory University. Sherry Williams Honea, assistant professor of nursing, is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the University of Florida. Her husband's name is Tom. James Allen Lewis, assistant professor of history, is mhrried to the former Johanna Olson. A graduate of Ohio State University, he holds the MA from Northern Illinois University. Margaret Ann Lyons Sellers is an assistant professor of nursing, and a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. She comes here from Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. Her husband's name is Randall. Dr. Kenneth Takayuki Maehara, assistant professor in the Division of Health Sciences, holds de- • grees from San Jose State College. Married to Joan Lynn Maehara, he was formerly at Washington State University. Ray A. Menze, instructor in art, comes here from the LeMoyne Art Gallery in Tallahassee. He holds degrees from the University of Florida and the University of Kentucky. Dr. Patrick George Morris, associate professor of anthropology, holds BA and MA degrees from Indiana University and the Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Married to the former Lidia Del Piccolo, he has one son, and formerly taught at the University of Colorado. Terry Randall Nienhuis, assistant professor of English, holds degrees from Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan. Dr. James Mack Morrow Jr., assistant professor in the Department of Administration and School Personnel, holds three degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill. He and his wife, Mary, have two children. Heinz Werner Noonan, instructor in ecpnomics, is a graduate of Alaska Methodist University and the University of Alaska. He and his wife, Brigette, have two children. Thomas Elmer 0'Toole, assistant professor of history, is a graduate of St. Mary's College and the University of Minnesota. He and his wife, Ann, have two children. Dr. Garland Edward Pendergraph is an associate professor in medical technology. He holds the Ph.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill, and was formerly director of medical technology•at East Carolina University. He is married to the former Marcia Ann Burkow. Dr. Donald Robb Pfost, assistant professor of sociology, holds degrees from the University of Idaho and the University of Colorado. His wife's name is Loise, and they have two children. Baxter Maurice Ritchie, visiting lecturer in church history, comes here from Duke University. A graduate of Davidson College, he is married to the former Dorothy Poole, Dr. Daniel Lawrence Saddler, assistant professor in the Department of Administration and School Personnel, holds degrees from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Yvonne, have two children. Yvonne Noland Saddler is an assistant professor in speech and hearing. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Georgia. Tom Salvato Scanio, assistant professor in speech and hearing, holds degrees from the University of South Florida. His wife's name is Corinne.
