THE LOG devoted to the promt dustry. These . thr have been especially eraployees is industriously work- Safety and the Cleanliness and Order of his own department he is certainly progressing and the subject of the September Log, Cooperation, should appeal to him. SAFKTV FIRST Here is an example of the lack of cooperation: In order to make pulp of the quality required for the manufacture of the highest of paper, it is necessary that it be spotlessly clean, To this end thousands of dollars are spent every week. Imagine the feelings of the Manager when he visits the Machine Room at a time when the machines are making "broke" (the best of us make "broke" sometimes), and :(•;. from the outside Departments, as well as the Machine heip, using the otherwise clean pulp as a highway for dirty feet, tracking coal, cinders, black ash and iust plain everyday mud over this pulp, which must go to the broke beater, and through His End of the Machine >r.e .iio i Pa v him i M.-m-ui! The minute I would "burr" a stone "Pea-Soup" would have a spill And then I'd raise the Devil if he overflowed the screen For things looked different to me MY END OF THE MACHINE. Full many years have passed since then but still the lesson clings. I think of how we might avoid the bitterness and stings. How we would find our troubles 'oft times ended in a day And Grouches, jealousies and strife a leavin' right away If 'stead of makin' surly g-owls in tones true men despise We'd have a look at every case as thru another's eyes. Between 1914 and the late 1960s, the Champion Fibre Company published an internal newsletter, called The Log, to share news about the Canton mill, the community, and its employees. After 1940, news from the entire “Champion Family,” which included mills in Hamilton, Ohio; Houston, Texas and Sandersville, Georgia, was featured in each issue.
