He says .here is nothing that would induce him to locate where he is. Privace John M. West recently wrote from Wmningen, Germany, to his father, M. L. West of Canton, R. 1. Private West is serving with the U. S. army of occupation in the land of the Hun. He tells of his five days' stay in a rest camp at St, Nazaire, France, of a ride of two days and two nights in a box car, of a hike of twelve kilometers from Latreacy, France, to Arc Bar War, where after a stay of ten days and another box car ride lasting a day and a night, he and his comrades arrived at Flora, France, in hearing of the big guns. After a night's rest Private West and his comrades started for Dead Man's Hill in the Argonne Farest. Soon after arriving there an airplane fight Cook place over the heads of the soldiers, in which the U. S. planes were victorious. On account of roaring cannon and bursting shells, Private West did not sleep much his first night in camp there, but soon got used to it. After the armistice was signed, this home boy, with other comrades, was assigned to the third army of occupation to keep watch on the Rhine, in Germany. They passed through the city of Luxemburg and December 4th last crossed into German territory. After spending ten days in Pfla- zel, from thence they rode to the city of Coblenz, thence to Winningen.
