Stories of mountain folk broadcast: 2014-02-08
-
Amy begins the show with a special story for Valentine’s Day, “A Declaration of Love,” tells of her engagement to Robert Garza, Jr. The story is accompanied by “Deeper Blue.” On Creative Corner, Doreyl hosts Sandra Seibert of Sylva, a 3-D printer artist , who talks about the process of using a 3-D printer to do her work. “Turkey in the Straw” by Ron Smith follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks with Joyce Posey Starr of Franklin. She was born in Proctor, which was flooded by what is now Fontana Lake when Fontana Dam was built. Joyce shares some memories of her life in Proctor, Swain County and along the Little Tennessee River. The interview is followed by “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by the Muses. On Stories of the Cherokee, Robert talks with Tonya Carroll, former Miss Cherokee, in a segment he has called “Love, Cherokee Style.” They talk about the Cherokee clan system and Cherokee courtship, marriage, and divorce customs. “The Dance of the Nun Ne Hi” by Eddie Bushyhead follows the segment. On Down Another Road, an interview with potter Charlie Brown from June 9, 2012, is rebroadcast. He talks about his profession and also discusses the history of Brown’s Pottery. “Wildwood Flower” by Henry Queen ends the show.
