ADVERTISING A LIE. From the Asheville Gazette we clip the following lie which appears in the form of an advertisement: SOUTHERN PICTURES AND PEN- CELLINGS. Official Organ of the Appalachian National Park Association. OUT TODAY. Contains full report of the proceedings of the Convention of the Appalachian Park Association. ORDER COPIES AT ONCE SUPPLY LIMITED. ' Editorial Office 32 Patton Ave. French Broad Press, President George S. Powell, of the Appalachian National Park Association, says the association has no official organ and does not want one. "We are informed that the chief owner of the French Broad Press is a vice president of the Appalachian National Park Association. Is he responsible for this advertised lie?

The Appalachian National Park Association was formed in 1899 for the purpose of promoting the idea of a national park in the eastern U.S. In this 14-page communication written within weeks of its organization, the association adopted the magazine, “Southern Pictures and Pencillings,” as the official organ of the association. The publication was produced by A. H. McQuilkin, a Chicago-based editor who moved to Asheville, North Carolina in the mid-1890s and became involved with the association.
