Mga panglumpong dagok na tinanggap ng Hermes. When the crippling blows were given to the Hermes. '"THE Japanese Naval Air Forces that made a surprise attack on Rangoon Island on April 9 spied the British Aircraft Carrier Hermes and a destroyer steaming southward. The Air Force chased these crafts, scored direct hits and sent both of them down to the bottom. The photos show the series of attack from the beginning to the end. The Hermes was commissioned in 1932, she had a displacement of 18,050 tons. Speed 25 knots with a battery of six 14 cm. guns. Our Wild Eagles still keep pounding on to the end. The tiny speck in the sky is one of our bombers. The finale of the attack. The final blows are given and the Hermes is already half submerged. The end of the Hermes. With an explosion, she turns over and plunges to the bottom.

This edition of Japanese propaganda magazine, “Shin Seiki” (text in Tagalog and English), published by the Department of Information, was brought back to America by Carr and Ruth Hooper who were interned at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, Philippines from January 1942 to February 1945. Hand-written notes made by Carr refer to several photos and captions. The camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was run by the Japanese military during World War II and housed over 3,000 internees from January 1942 until February 1945.
