MASAMA ANG TAYO NG CHUNGKING CHUNGKING IN HOT WATER Ang tulong ng Ingles at Amerikano kay Chiang Kai Shek ay lubos na naputol nang sakupin ng mga Hapones ang Burma. Ang pamahalaan nl Chiang, na umaasa lamang sa mga tulong na ito, ay halos lupaypay na ngayon. Wala na siyang dapat asahan ngayon. Makiklta sa larawan na ang Chungking ay isang "pa- tay" na siyudad na lamang ngayon. The Anglo-American aid to Chiang Karl Shek has been completely thwarted by the lapanese advance into Burma. The Chiang Government relying upon the aid from the United States and Britain had put up a flimsy resistance against Japan. She has nothing to depend upon now. Chungking, as the photo shows is now a dead city.

This edition of Japanese propaganda magazine, “Shin Seiki” (text in Tagalog and English), published by the Department of Information, was brought back to America by Carr and Ruth Hooper who were interned at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, Philippines from January 1942 to February 1945. Hand-written notes made by Carr refer to several photos and captions. The camp, also known as the Manila Internment Camp, was run by the Japanese military during World War II and housed over 3,000 internees from January 1942 until February 1945.
