  • wcu_canton-2473.jp2
  • In 1955, The Log spent a few hours with Adam Scott who is one of 550 people hauling wood to Champion as a truck wood hauler. More than 25% of Champion’s daily requirement of 1,600 cords is received from local truckers who come from on average 22 miles away and as far as 70 miles. In this photograph, Mrs. Greta Johnston, a teller at Wachovia Bank in Asheville cashes Scott's check. Champion pays out more than $2 million a year to wood truckers in Western North Carolina.
