  • There’s to be a special exhibit of the Students work on April 28 & Lucy may go down for it. A good chance to love over the school & faculty etc. She is hesitating over the expense of the trip. But she has earned it & also quite a piece of money tending to the Buffalo boys affairs. David has developed into a fine man — thanks to the Army — but even the Army has failed to make a man out of Howard. He has married a no account gold-digger, who does not want to live in her native Buffalo, for various reasons. All our knowledge of her is hearsay from H’s friends & her family, but all agree on her undesirableness. They “wish to have nothing to do with our old life. Marion & I will make a life of our own.” Hence they have bought a house on the Heights here, repudiated all their friends & relatives — except the name & money —, he is back over seas, she is here in Ithaca, among strangers in a strange town.
