Johnson Catolster and family
-
This 1940s-era photograph by Vivienne Roberts shows Cherokee woodworker Johnson Catolster (1909-1988), his wife, Agnes Wayne Catolster, and their six children on the porch of their log home. Johnson Catolster sits in front, behind him, left to right, are Sarah, Joann, Mrs. Catolster with Phyllis Eugene at her feet, Salica, John Eric, and Gary Wayne. Catolster was a heavy equipment operator who developed his skill at woodworking and, during his off hours, made solid cherry bowls of all shapes and sizes. Catolster also served as a chairman of the Cherokee Tribal Council.
