S 2/c MAXWELL CLEMENTS HENSLEY, Sylva, N. C, son of Rev. and Mrs. B. S. Hensley. Inducted in Amphibious Landing Force Apr. 15, 1944. Trained at Camp Perry, Va. CPL. CLAUDE HENSON, Swannanoa, N. C, son of Mrs. W. L. Henson and husband of Ruth C. Henson. Inducted Sept. 2, 1943. Trained at Fort Bragg, N. C. (Field Artillery Replacement Training Center). Served in the European Theatre of War. Citations or medals: EAMET Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Good oCnduct, Victory, and Purple Heart. Served with 7th armored division in France and Belgium with Field Artillery. Was forward observer in front lines. Discharged Dec. 26, 1946. SGT. OSCAR N. HENSON, Sylva, N. C, son of Mrs. W. L. Henson and husband of Nannabel Hughes Henson. Inducted July 24, 1941. Trained at Eglin Field, Fla. Served with Post Engineers at Eglin Field, Fla., and in California with the Army Air Corps. Discharged Nov. 1, 1945. PFC. DENNIS C. HIGDON, JR., Sylva, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Higdon. Inducted July 14, 1944. Trained at Camp Blanding, Fla., and Fort Meade, Md. Served in the European Theatre of War. Citations or medals: European Theatre of Operations, With 5 Battle Stars, Marksmanship in Pistol, Rifle, Carbine, and Anti- Aircraft Shooting. T/SGT. JOE C. HIGDON, Andrews, N. C, son of Dennis C. Higdon and husband of Josephine M. Higdon. Inducted in the Medical Corp of the Air Trainsport Command Oct. 10, 1941. Trained at Fort Bragg, N. C, Camp Lee, Va., and Morrison Field, Fla. Served in the European Theatre of Operations. Received European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with 4 Stars. Discharged Sept. 30, 1945. S/SGT. VAN B. HIGDON, Gay, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Higdon. Inducted May, 1942. Trained at Parris Island, S. C, Cherry Point, N. C, Jacksonville, Fla., and San Diego, Cal. Served in the Pacific Theatre of War. Citations or medals: Good Conduct, Presidential Citation, Marksman. Saw duty on Marshall Islands and others. Discharged May, 1946. PVT. WOODROW V. HIGDON, Greensboro, N. C, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Higdon and husband of Helen Gibbs Higdon. Inducted Dec, 1945. Trained at Keesler Field, Miss. Served in the United States. He also worked in the Statistical Division in Cincinnati, Ohio. LIEUT. ANTHONY KEITH HINDS, Cullowhee, N. C, son of Mrs. M. K. Hinds and husband of Ruth Oliver Hinds. Inducted in Naval Reserve Aug. 15, 1943. Trained at NTS (Indoctrination), Hollywood, Fla., West Coast Sound School, San Diego, Cal., ASW Instructors School, Boston, Flee Sonar School, Key West, Fla., and Sub-Chaser Training Center, Miami, Fla. Served in the American Theatre. Discharged Dec 1, 1945. CORP. ERNEST J. HINSON, Sylva N. C, son of Frank L. Hinson and husband of Kate Carden. Inducted Nov. 24, 1943. Trained at Camp Shelby, Miss. Served in the European Theatre of Operations. Taken prisoner near Bologna Oct. 24, 1944. Liberated at Vilsiburg, Germany, May 1, 1945. Discharged Nov. 1, 1945. M/SGT. FRANK A. HOLDEN, Speedwell, N.'C. Called into active duty from Regular Army Reserve Feb. 6, 1941. Trained at Camp Croft, S. C, Fort Myer, Fla., Indianapolis Cap, Pa. Served in the North African Theatre of War and American. Served at Camp Croft as Chief Clerk, stationed with Army of Middle East in Cairo and Tripoli and as Sgt. Inducted Aug. 18, 1942. Trained at Keesler Field, Miss., Nashville, Tenn., Maxwell Field, Bainbridge, Ga., Columbus, Miss., and Aglin Field. Served in the United States. Served as instructor on B-17 and B-24 at Lockbourne Field, Columbus, and as supply officer at Maxwell Field. L. C. HOOEPR, Cowarts, N. Trained at San Diego, Cal. S. C. 3/c WESTERN HAROLD HOOPER, Cowarts, N. C, son of Mrs. W. H. Hooper and husband of Alice Dillard Hooper. Inducted in U. S. Novy (3rd Fleet) Nov. 16, 1942. Trained at Norfolk, Va.
