  • : »* ; Wo. 1—Interior of Bone Valley (Hazel Creek Camp) Store, showing Robert Orr, Store Man and Jake Danielson, Acid Wood Man. No. 2—"Deb" Cuthertson, Woods Superintendent, and Verne Bateman, the Woods Payroll Man. No. 3—Verne Bateman's boy on the skin of a bear killed near his house in the Smoky Mountains. MABEN—Continued Uncle Jerry Williams says bachelor life is something awful. Mrs. Williams is spending the summer with her daughter, Mrs. C. V. Browning, of Glen Rogers. Coley says the 4th was slim for him, it was so far from pay day. Mrs. F. A. Thomas and children have returned to their home in Princeton, W. Va., after a visit with her parents here, Mr. and Mrs. John Williams. The lawn at the Community Building is certainly being well cared for this summer. Four large beds of flowers add much to the appearance. You can see Bill out every day giving it the once over with lawn mower or rake. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Goode are the proud parents of a ten-pound boy, born June 9th. Grover says he wouldn't take a million dollars for the boy and wouldn't give two cents for another one just like him. Rev. H. M. Sturm and John Wood motored to Durham, N. C, where the Mr. Sturm attended Trinity College, taking a special course pertaining to his work as a minister, Mr. Wood being on his vacation. Roger S. Burns, of Ardmore, Pa., and Eric G. Ball, of Baltimore, Md., two young men who recently arrived at Maben to work during their vacation period, have been initiated in the art of handling lumber by first unloading a car of hay. Both stood the test fine without injury except some blisters on their hands. J. P. Sutherland and Howard Davis have each purchased a new Victrola. Mrs. H. H. Eggert has returned from visiting her parents at Graham, Va. We now have a daily passenger train over the Virginian Western, the new railroad from Maben to Glen Rogers. Mrs. Roy Workman and children have returned home. Roy says vacations are fine but "I am certainly glad to have them home again." Little Bernice Houston has been very ill with typhoid fever. The colored boys here have a fine baseball team and are winning games right along. Wonder how many of the other operations have a colored ball team. v;:r:.P' h.
