Copyrigkted Material Western Carplina University a : HunterLibrary trip to a western park would be spent on the road almost entirely. It is only just that the east should have its parks and it is particularly advisable that the finest mountains and forests be preserved forever. But this booklet is not an appeal for assistance in this great campaign. It is a presentation of the beauties of the Great Smoky Mountains, limited by the limitations that govern photographs and print, but sufficient, it is hoped, to give some slight idea of the splendor that is here. This booklet, again, is an invitation to the people of America to come to the Great Smoky Mountains and see for themselves.

The “Great Smoky Mountains National Park” brochure was created to showcase “the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina.” Within its 24-pages, the commission provided an update on the status of the future park and promoted its development as “a great playground that will have no equal in the world.” The brochure quotes Horace Kephart and Robert Sterling Yard, Secretary of the National Parks Association, and includes photographs by Jim Thompson. Clearly thinking nationally, the commission included a map at the back of the brochure with mileage to the site listed from cities throughout the East Coast.
