Motorists traveling the Old Spanish Trail and Bank- head Highway between Tucson and Phoenix leave the highway at the town of Florence going southwest to the monument. Frank Pinkley, superintendent of Southwestern National Monuments, is in immediate charge of the Casa Grande National Monument and maintains his permanent headquarters at this point. THE CHACO CANYON NATIONAL MONUMENT As examples of prehistoric architectural skill the ruins of the Chaco Canyon National Monument, N. Mex., are without equal in the whole of the United States; the cultural material recovered from their abandoned rooms excels in variety, technique, and beauty of design that from any other archeological site in the entire Southwest. PsTo written word of history exists concerning the Chaco Can von builders. Pueblo Bonito (beautiful village), the largest of the ruins, is an immense structure of semicircular ground plan, originally five stories high. Its length east and west is 667 feet and its greatest depth north and south, 315 feet. The highest standing wall at present is 48 feet. Every type of masonry known to pueblo architecture is found in this building. The National Geographic Society for four years has carried on extensive exploration of the Pueblo Bonito
