  • Walt Whitman Stamp Above is a photograph of the Walk Whitman five-cent stamp that will go on first day sale in the Camden postoffice on Tuesday, Feb. 20. This is the first time that Camden was ever honored with a first day sale of a stamp and the third time that New Jersey was ever so honored. On the first day of sale in Camden dealers and stamp collectors the world over will be in town or turn their envelopes over to others for mailing on that day so that they may have what is known in collecting, a first day cover of this steamp. The probable mailing on that one day will be between 160,000 and 170,000 covers. The Association of South Jersey Stamp Clubs will be holidng its fifth annual stamp exhibition on that day at the Walk Whitman Hotel and that society now has in hand hundreds of envelopes to be mailed on the first day of sale of the new stamp.
